Here’s the December programme!
Monday 6th December
Secret Agent Super Dragon (1966)
A Venezuelan criminal starts conquering America by giving drugged candy and gum to college students in Michigan. Agent Super Dragon (Ray Danton) tracks the villain to Amsterdam (where else do villains who put drugs in lollies hang out). With Marisa Mell and Margaret Lee. 16mm Annandale Hotel 7.30pm Donation
Monday 13th December
Wild Angels (1966)
The film that spawned the biker genre. Peter Fonda stars as Heavenly Blues, a sulking, leather clad Hell’s Angel leader. The sometimes shocking events in this incredible movie were based on stories told by the real California Angels, who appear as themselves. Afterward they sued for deformation of character! In the aftermath of an attack on a Mexican biker club, Heavenly’s best friend Loser (Bruce Dern) is wounded and ends up in hospital. The Gang decide to spring him from the hospital by kidnapping him against doctors orders. Guess what? he dies and they decide to give him a send off befitting a Hell’s Angel. With the preacher tied up they proceed with a stoned-out orgy in the church, choice of instrument, bongo drums. Of course Dern being the guest of honor he attends propped up on a bench with a joint in his mouth. At the end Fonda stays behind explaining “There’s nowhere to go.” True, but after The Trip Fonda made Easy Rider and became a cult hero for a while. Literally dozens of biker films followed some more violent and meaningless but few better. With Nancy Sinatra Michael J. Pollard, Gayle Hunnicutt, Diane Ladd, Dick Miller, and Peter Bogdanovich (the assistant director). “Blues Theme” by the Arrows was a hit single and two albums of the Fuzztone instrumental music was released. Not to be missed. 16mm Annandale Hotel 7.30 pm Donation.

Monday 20th December
Wake in Fright (1970)
A gift from the Mu-Meson Archives to Sydney’s celluloid lovers of fine cinema. I keep reading how there are no prints of this film around so here it is. One of the genuinely lost Australian classics. A shocking indictment of Australian drinking culture. Staring Garry Bond, Chips Rafferty, Jack Thompson, Sylvia Kay and Donald Pleasence as a doctor. Dons Party looks like a four year old’s birthday party held at McDonalds up against this film. Set over the Xmas holidays a sensitive young teacher stuck in the outback tries to make his way to Sydney and his girlfriend but collides with a community of hard drinking, gambling and kangaroo hunting locals which leads his life into a downward spiral to hell. 16mm Annandale Hotel 7.30pm Donation
Monday 27th December
They Saved Hitler’s Brain
Director David Bradley (Julius Caesar). Award wining cinematographer Stanly Cortez (The Magnificent Ambersons) and film star Carlos Rivas (True Grit) have made a film only Ed Wood (and the people who attend Cult Sinema Monday) could be proud of. The production started in the ‘50s, but it wasn’t until the early ‘60s when some UCLA film students spliced in extra footage that it was ready for release. It seems Hitler’s head is being kept alive on top of a mechanical box in a tiny Caribbean island controlled by Nazis. “Mr. H” and his pals are planning on spraying every major city with a deadly nerve gas, then take over the world (does Bush know about this). Only Professor John Colman and his antidote stand in their way. When he is kidnapped his son-in-law Phil, and daughter fly to his rescue and that’s when the fun really begins. Due to a public holiday Cult Sinema Monday will be held at Mu-Meson Archives 7.30 Donation.
