All of our voting must have made Triple J sit up and take notice, because on Sunday 3rd August, they are sending the lovely Rosie Beaton over to host Birds of Tokyo Live at the Wireless at the Fly by Night.

The gig is free, and all ages, and the support bands are Harlequin League and the recently everywhere, Abbe May who has been enjoying rather a lot of airplay on the Js of late. Could this be the youth network come digging for more gold in the west? With these two supporting bands, they won’t even need to scratch the surface. Once again, the Birds remember the people who loved them first, and give a hand up to the next crop of artists, not in a patronising seed project kind of way, but by simply giving them a stage and an audience to show what they can do.

The best thing about a surprise gig is that there isn’t long to wait, it’s on Sunday August 3rd, and thanks to the needs of radio programming and time differences, the whole thing is set to kick off at 2pm, so you won’t even hurt too much on Monday.

If you want to win VIP passes to free drinks in the bands’ party room afterwards, you’ll have to jump through Dools and Linda’s hoops after 3pm next week, but otherwise, be one of the first few hundred to arrive so you don’t get stuck cheering from the carpark.
