WAMi Award winners New Rules for Boats are traveling the world in search of inspiration and to work on new material for the next six months, but will play one final gig at Amplifier before they go.
Having released their debut album Thousands in 2007, it is about time for the band to start thinking about the second album. Of course a second album is a tricky thing, and a daunting task because it is judged harshly by the standards set by the first album. A debut generally contains songs inspired by the events of the life so far, and so the material is richer than that found in a year’s worth of touring.
Traveling the world before building the next album should give the band some experiences and inspiration worthy of a follow-up album. Not that the Boats have been idle since 2007, they have been touring and gigging regularly around the traps, coming up with a few new tracks along the way that they have compiled into an EP. They have just finished producing a limited number of copies that will be available at their last show. The band hope the EP will keep fans sated until they return home in 2009 to show us their holiday snaps.
Helping New Rules For boats on their bon-voyage party on 14th June will be Felicity Groom And The Black Black Smoke, The City Watch and The Russian Winters.
