Here at FL HQ we’ve heard some very exciting murmurs about who might be coming down for this year’s Great Escape festival in Sydney. Other cities take heed too!

What we know for sure is that the shindig will go down over the October long weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5. It returns to the idyllic Newington Armoury on the Parramatta River – a truly unique festival site dotted with heritage buildings.

The organisers won’t comment on the line-up, but we’ve been hearing these names bandied about in hushed tones: Black Francis, Bright Eyes, Supergrass, Ben Folds, Yeasayer and the previously announced Ladytron. We’re sure you agree that’s a list worth gushing about. All will be revealed in good time via the festival’s mailing list Ã¢â‚¬Â¦and of course right here on FasterLouder.

Im hoping if this line up is correct that there will be a few sideshows seeing as I wont be going to the festival...cant miss my year 12 10 year reunion thats on tat weekend...if our 5 year one is anything to go by, it should be a fucking awesomely messy weekend!!

Mate, some of the peeps I went to school with have never been to Sydney, havent heard any music that wasnt blasted from a feral ute at a B&S and if you asked them to go to a music festival they would say that Tamworth isnt on again till next year!

I've been a Supergrass fan since the Coco days and I think Diamond Hoo Ha is one of the of best albums they've ever made.

Hope they do a proper tour.

It's a rarity for me because of my location. So live music IS a celebration for me, and is exactly how I would like to celebrate my birthday, thank you very much.

afghan whigs - first (and afaik only) rock band of the 90's to incorporate soul music into their style. their cover of 'come see about me' is gorgeous. plus gentlemen and 1965 are some of the best albums ever.

eric's trip - lo-fi bedroom group outta canada. started off aping grunge to great effect (see: happens all the time) but after the breakup of singers rick white & julie doiron they became wonderfully heartbreaking songsmiths. (see: secret for julie, behind the garage)

belly - side project for tanya donelly of throwing muses and breeders fame. far dreamier and hazier than either of those bands ever tried to be, tanya finally got to show off her songwriting muscle after years of living in the twin shadows of kim deal & kristin hersh. imo she is the best of the three.

the fact that you know of none of them is both depressing and consolidating.

There's heaps of different kinds of music fans, though. Fans of 90s alternative rock would probably know those bands, but someone who doesn't know as much about that scene/movement (like myself) may not know them.

yes, when i can indeed eat at TGE, it IS the choice.

coffee-generally is good too. secutrity were a bitch round tents the 2nd one tho', keep lights out or low in tents if you're in there having a sip or a puff.
