Well welcome to what has been referred an absolutely insane week for music lovers in the territory. There are more events on in one week than I’ve ever seen in my time on the scene. So let’s run through the list, shall we.
Kicking the week off are Kisschasy who’ll be joined on stage by The Donnas and The Getaway Plan at the ANU Bar on Tuesday night. We’ve not seen Kisschasy in Canberra since Trackside last year when they blew the lid off the Triple J stage inside, with the addition of all girl punk troupe The Donnas and The Getaway Plan, it should be a night to remember.
If you like your music on straight edge side of hardcore, or was a fan of Michael on his short lived venture into the Big Brother house, then you should check out I Killed the Prom Queen at the UCU Refectory. It’s the only all ages show for the week, so if you’re under 18 and want to see Prom Queen on their final tour of Australia you should get yourself there. Actually if you just want to see some great Adelaide hardcore, you should get yourself there. Both shows still have tickets available and kick of from 7pm at their respective venues.
On Wednesday night FasterLouder are bringing Faker to the ANU Refectory. Faker have had a mammoth year in 2008 and as always will send the crowd into a frenzy. Look out for Nathan as he climbs everything he possible can to get a better look at the crowd.
Thursday sees Cog hit the stage at the University of Canberra Refectory, also supported by FasterLouder. Cog have just released Sharing Space and whilst they previewed some tracks off the album Canberra is yet to hear the power of the whole disc live.
Sebastian Bach was a household name for every teenage hair / glam metal fan when I was growing up. He fronted, dare I say legendary outfit, Skid Row and was interviewed last week on Triple J’s breakfast show, where he entertained listeners with his witty banter, which I’m sure will be repeated on stage. Doors at the ANU Refectory open at 8pm on Friday for this epic hair metal odyssey.
Also on Friday night you could check out the Skybombers playing at the Greenroom with locals Hancock Basement and Fist Full of Nothing. Tickets are a measly $12 from the door.
By this stage of a normal week you’d be exhausted and spent, but not this week, because the boys at Friction and Lexington Music are putting on what’s destined to be another huge event Warehouse. On stage will be Bonde De Role, as well as Mixmaster Mike, Utah Saints, Van She and a host of others. It kicks off at 1pm and runs until 11pm at the AIS Arena. The boys are promising to turn the place inside out with their production and sound, so it would pay to check it out.
If you want to chill out Saturday night, why not head to the ANU Bar to see The Audreys take the stage with J Walker of Machine Translations fame.
Tickets for all shows are still on sale from their respective outlets, but get in quickly as some shows are sure to sell out.
We’ve been gearing up for this “week of death” here at FasterLouder and our team of dedicated reporters and photographers will be out and about capturing the vibe and reporting back to you all week. If you see one of our photographers out make sure you get your picture taken, and check back to see if you’ve become famous on the internet.
Hit up the forums to tell us which events you’re going to, and after the event give us your review before the official one hits screens. You never know you could be FasterLouder’s next star reporter.
Over and out
Boxy!
