After their Across The Great Divide double-bill with silverchair packed out Australian arenas, Powderfinger will be returning to intimate theatres for The Upstairs at the Downstairs Tour in June. FasterLouder is as glad as a groupie to be presenting, too…
Billed as the band’s “first return to theatres in Australia in eight years”, this special series of concerts will be the ultimate indulgence for fans. Powderfinger is set to perform two distinct sets, divided by an intermission. The first is stripped-back and acoustic, while the closing phase will be plugged-in and rocked-out. As an added bonus (and it’s a big one), the boys are following Wilco’s lead and letting ticket-buyers choose the set-list, by voting for their favourite songs online.
In the press spiel, guitarist Darren Middleton enthuses about the showcases. “One of our main focuses for this tour is to make it a little more personal and have more interaction with our fans and what they would like to hear us play. Hence, they’re choosing our set list…we will be at their mercy!”
As if the ‘Choose Your Own Powderfinger Adventure’ format wasn’t incentive enough, The Upstairs at the Downstairs tour also boasts 23-year-old virtuoso Whitley as support. Then, as the final icing, it’ll be a carbon neutral endeavour. Tickets go on sale Friday 11 April – and it’s fair to say they won’t hang around long…
