As if the prospect of Helmet’s upcoming tour wasn’t exhilarating enough, frontman Page Hamilton is promising something extra-special. As part of all shows, he’ll lead the new line-up through the landmark Helmet album Meantime from start to finish.

Meantime was released in 1992, and set the template for Helmet’s hard-hitting, vitriolic metal. The record is still seen as a triumph of intense and intelligent riffing, with incendiary lyrics to match. It’s a concise 37 minutes, too, meaning the band can play it live in its entirety and still have time to dip into the other six records. In its current incarnation, Helmet is Page Hamilton plus guitarist Dan Beeman, bassist Jon Fuller and Kyle Stevenson on drums.

Helmet perform Meantime in full, plus a whole lot more, at the following shows:

Friday 25th April – Great Northern Hotel, Byron Bay
Saturday 26th April – The Hoey Moey, Coffs Harbour

Thursday 1st May – Uni Bar, Wollongong
Friday 2nd May – ANU Bar, Canberra
Saturday 3rd May – Hi Fi Bar, Melbourne
Sunday 4th May – Fowlers Live, Adelaide

that will work well... of course we still need some strap it on and betty action. they did a pretty long set last gaelic gig. looking forward to it. curious as to may support also. you goin browny? we're overdue for a few frothy ones mate! Our next party is locked in for the 5th April from 3pm, you, dex and the fool and anyone else is welcome. Bands start about 7:30. The GERE have been jammming feverishly (actually the fever is probably due to how small and stuffy the room we jam in is and how many intoxicants have been consumed!) over Easter and are excitedly anticipating their first gig. Unfortunately Quirk the Gimp pulled out from headlining so we've got a northern beaches band called Wookie-bait replacing them. they'll only do a shorter set though so will give us more time to play.

They havent finalised the draw yet though so I may still be able to make it along depending on where we play mate. Although I wouldnt be getting there till a bit later seeing as 1st grade dont run on till 3:15, we normally finish around 5pm-ish.

Yeah mate, Im doin V and didnt have the coin to do sideshows also this time around (fuck you mr policeman, mr parking inspector, mr fucktard undercover cop and dont think ive forgotten you mr state debt recovery office collector!!!). Ive also got one of my good mates bday shenanigans on Friday night, continung through to V Fest. I reckon I'll be ready to die by Sunday! Yeah mate, if we are playin any of the city-ish teams I'll be sweet to make it over, just hoping we're not playing out west anywhere

me too - and still love it can't wait for this! as good an album Meantime is, i strongly recommend you get Betty and flog it before the gig. it's cheap-as these days, under $12 from chaos.com for example (i got it onsale for $6.95 from chaos after having a burnt copy of it for 10+ years!) overall, i think meantime is slightly stronger start to finish but the best songs on betty are as as good as anything they've ever done! i have no problem with people suggesting it's their best album ever. depending on my mood, sometimes i prefer it too for it's grooviness But Meantime is power plus! Strap it on is good for a roughhouse production, some great riffs and a perfect pointer to their future. Born Annoying is pretty shite except for the first song (which is also the last song) all the following releases (aftertaste, size matters, monochrome) have some great moments too and are all worthy albums but each have the odd flat spot in my opinion.
