Here’s the programme for November.

Monday 1st Nov
The Spider (1958)
The ads warned: “It must eat you to live!” Two teens find evidence of strange goings on when they search for the girl’s father and stumble into a cave with a giant spider. A high school biology teacher finds the said giant spider and puts it in the gym (I would have put it in the science lab…). The music of the band practicing for the prom wakes up the monster. It hates rock ‘n’ roll and decides to stomp the town and turn the citizens into dried up corpses. 16mm  Annandale Hotel 7.30pm

Monday 8th Nov
Return of the Ape Man (1944)
Bela Lugosi as Professor Dexter brings a prehistoric man (former boxer Frank Moran) to life and gives it the brain of his co-worker (a very young John Carradine). The creature first seen frozen in plastic-wrap “ice” plays piano and shows his underwear under his animal skins! Wonderful. It has nothing to do with the previous year’s the Apeman but it’s just as funny. Schlock at it’s best. 16mm  Annandale Hotel 7.30pm

Friday 12th Nov
Charles Manson
A look at the man behind the mask of Charles Manson. Scape goated by Richard Nixon at the height of Vietnam A compilation of news footage, clips and interviews with several people including John Gilmore who wrote the book the Garbage People. Charles in his own words raving lunatic, pathological murderer or prophetic seer. Mu-Meson Archives 7.30pm for 8pm start $10 with supper.

Monday 15th Nov
Don’t Open the Window (1974)
The goriest and the best Night of the Living Dead rip off. Those of you who don’t follow exploitation films might be surprised to see Arthur Kennedy as a mean cop surrounded by flesh eating ghouls. A government device to kill insects also revives the dead. One body fresh from an autopsy is particularly gross. With Ray Lovelock and Christian Galbo, the misleading American title probably turned away potential patrons. A shocking film which was drastically cut for its American release but with still enough gore to satisfy.  16mm Annandale Hotel 7.30pm

Friday 19th Nov
Raincoat skin flick double
Satan’s Bed (1965)  Yes Yoko Ono, John Lennon’s soul mate and avant-garde artist made her  acting debut in this twisted sickie. Ono in a kimono plays the Japanese bride-to-be of a drug smuggling immigration officer. When Lou a small time drug dealer finds out that he is quitting to settle down he promptly kidnaps the bride. Things start to heat up when he hires three psychos to rough her up.
White Slaves of Chinatown (1964)
In the first of the Olga movies she uses pot parties and comic book violence to turn Gigi Darlene and other female captives into her white slaves before putting them to work as drug addicted hookers. It’s not all bad as Olga has her tender side too and, in the mood for romance, selects an occasional slave for a little lesbian love. Classic mid 60’s grindhouse trash. If nudity and adult themes offend these flicks are not for you. Mu-Meson Archives 7.30 for 8pm start $10 with supper.

Monday 22nd Nov
Daddy ‘O’ (1958)
Hot blonds, souped-up rods and espionage is all in a days work for Daddy-O. A bad girl/juvenile delinquent film about Phil Sandifer aka Daddy O. When his friend Sonny is killed he becomes hell-bent on avenging him. He teams up with Jana Ryan and both go under cover in a night club. But when they look under the hood of their new employer, they discover dirty dealings and a motive for Sonny’s death. Then things really start to hot-rod up. 16mm Annandale Hotel 7.30pm

Friday 26th Nov
Goodbye Uncle Tom (1971)
It was advertised as “The first motion picture based on historical facts  about the rise and revolt of slavery in America. It became one of the most reviled and misunderstood films of its time. Made by the directors who brought us Mondo Cane this epic recreation of the American slave atrocities was condemned as depraved exploitation and at the same acclaimed as an unprecedented cry for Black anguish and rage. This is the complete uncut 123min fully restored version from the negative. “Incredible you will not believe what you are watching. It makes Roots look like an episode of The Jefferson’s.” Mu-Meson Archives 7.30pm for 8pm start $10

Monday 29th Nov
Latitude Zero (1969)
Directed by Inoshiro Honda the man who brought us Godzilla gives us this US/Japanese crazy sci-fi fantasy -adventure. Cesar Romero as Malic the murderer and Patricia Medina as Lucretia try to destroy an underwater citadel and with it, submarine captain Joseph Cotton. Malic sends a flying lion, giant rats and batmen to kill the scientist. Beset with budget problems the filmmakers had to cut a lot of corners resulting in cheesy sets and costumes. Not to be missed. Annandale Hotel 7.30pm
