Thu 6th Mar, 2008 in Local News
Animal Kingdom is the long awaited debut album by Melbourne band Baseball. The album was recorded on 2 inch tape at Head Gap Studios ( My Disco, Ninetynine, Magic Dirt, The Slits ) in Melbourne, and has been mastered by John Golden ( Sonic Youth, Chris Isaak ) in California.
Formed in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2002 – Baseball is the project of Thick Passage ( Ninetynine, ex-Sandro ) who fronts the band on vocals and rhythm violin, joined by Monika Fikerle ( Love of Diagrams ) on bass. The duo then acquired the services of Evelyn Morris ( Pikelet, True Radical Miracle ) on drums and vocals, and Ben Butcher ( The Assassination Collective ) to play guitar. They have been performing with this line-up since the beginning of 2005.
Baseball have toured 18 countries in the last 2 years, which has seen them share the stage with the likes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (US), Vincent Gallo (US), Auf Der Maur (Canada) and Boom Boom Satellites (Japan) at the Hohaiyan Rock Festival in Taipei. They’ve also played alongside No Means No in the Czech Republic.
In Australia the band has played shows with Saul Williams (USA), Sleater Kinney (USA), Les Savy Fav (USA) Ni Hao (Japan), Ryokuchi (Jap), Birushanah (Jap), Sabot (Czech Rep) and The Hold Steady (USA).
