The Smallgoods are bringing their mystical harmony-drenched psych-pop to the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on Wednesday February 13 and Spectrum in Sydney on Friday February 15, for two special shows as guests of the Ruby Suns from New Zealand. The Ruby Suns are fresh from recently supporting the Shins in Australia and will be previewing tunes from their delightful forthcoming album Sea Lion (Popfrenzy).
And in breaking news, the Smallgoods will support US master of melody Kelley Stoltz on Sunday February 17 at the Tote in Melbourne.
Especially for this tour, the Smallgoods have put together a special handmade tour CD featuring their current single ‘Driving Song’ along with a number of cover versions of songs on the theme of driving. These B-sides include a rollicking version of the Muppets’ classic ‘Moving Right Along’, a super take on the Supertramp number ‘Take The Long Way Home’ and a spaced out tribute to their good friends the Ca$inos and their song ‘Drive Me Home’.
The ‘Driving Song’ is the third single from the Smallgoods’ most recent album, Down on the Farm, released in August of last year on the Lost and Lonesome Recording Co label. Down on the Farm has enjoyed a glowing reception, with daily airplay on triple j, and the Smallgoods’ mastery is evidenced by their exceptional live shows most recently at the Meredith Music Festival and supporting US band Spoon at a sold out Corner Hotel show in Melbourne.
