Faker frontman "happy" to comeout

Nathan Hudson, lead singer of Big Day Out stars Faker, has told the Sunday Magazine he is gay and “is now happy to talk about it”.

“My association with being gay was that it was bad and dark and not good for you,” he told the mag. “I had trouble finding people to look up to.

“I’m happy to talk about being gay for that kid in the suburbs who’s 15 and scared.”

On the other side of the coin, the recently-divorced Daniel Johns is reported to have told the Melbourne Big Day Out, “I’m not fucking gay!” mid-set.

I think its good that he's made it official no so much for interests sake, but for other kids in the same position. I had a mate at uni who was gay and in a band that gigged around melbs a fair bit. He was petrified of people find in out cause he thought it would be damaging as they were part of the real "cock rock" crowd..

I think every time someone like Nathan comes out, it kinda helps peeps like him..

Why does he assume people do, that's the question? I like to think that most of us generation Xers don't really give stuff about who puts what up their coit, and we're the ones they're playing to, not a bunch of old timers who think gays should be drawn and quartered. The fact that he hasn't been up-front about it is more perplexing to me than the fact he licks balls. I mean really, why say anything? Could it be a grab for attention from yet another Aussie band that will never get any bigger than they already are?

yeah, Daniel Johns is a little eccentric and very effeminate. That doesn't make him 'gay', it makes him rich and able to do whatever he wants, including cross-dress onstage. Big Deal.
Daniel's outburst has annoyed me a lot- what's so wrong about being gay that makes you want to vehemently deny it in the same way you'd deny that you contracted a venereal disease?
