Bjork cancels Sydney Big DayOut appearance

Having wowed the audience at her sold out Sydney Opera House forecourt performance on Wednesday January 23rd, it has been revealed that Icelandic pop-princess Bjork is now no longer appearing at the Sydney Big Day Out on Friday January 25th.

Her shock cancellation comes due to medical reasons, with doctors advising her not to perform due to swelling of her vocal chords. On her first tour of Australia in 12 years, the visit has not come without controversy so far, with Bjork lashing out at a photographer in Auckland last week.

Big Day Out organisers have offered a full ticket refund to any purchaser no longer wishing to attend the Sydney festival, however a partial refund is not available. It is unclear at this stage if Bjork will be forced to also cancel remaining Big Day Out dates across the country.

We regret to announce that Bj�rk will not be able to perform at the Sydney Big Day Out on Friday 25th January.

The decision was made following her performance at the Opera House last night. Doctors have advised Bjork to rest due to swelling of the vocal chords.

Bjork and the producers of Big Day Out hope for a swift recovery in anticipation of a continued Australian Tour. After a standout show at the Gold Coast Big Day Out this is a great disappointment to Bj�rk, who is on her first tour of Australia in twelve years.

No replacement show is possible.

All acts on the Orange stage will move up one spot. New times will be on the website by 7pm.

We realise that even though the Big Day Out offers more than 70 amazing acts it is only fair to offer refunds in this particular circumstance; regardless of our existing ticket conditions. However: no partial refunds are possible.

For those who have tickets but now do not wish to attend you will have until Monday February 4th to obtain a refund from your point of purchase. Only the face value of the ticket will be refunded to the original credit card of purchase.

From tomorrow: for purchases through Ticketmaster go to www.ticketmaster.com.au or contact bigdayout@fulfillment.com.au for purchases made through the Big Day Out website

The Big Day Out entrance will also have notification of the changes and refund option but once you have entered no refunds are possible.

Again from all our team we apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment.

That's incredibly disappointing to say the least!

All I can say is that I'm glad I saw her last night at the Opera House even thought I'm not going to the Big Day Out I feel extremely sorry for all of you who didn't/won't have the chance to see her in Sydney. Hopefully she'll return sooner than she would have if this didn't occur. It's been 12 years since she last toured so I'm pretty surprised about this.

But yeah at least they're offering refunds, but partial ones would be much better!

Oh and yeah DO NOT MISS ARCADE FIRE! YOU'LL SINCERELY REGRET IT! I saw them on Tuesday night at the Enmore and they too were phenomenal!

I'm hoping she recovers in time but it's out of my hands. Her pulling out would actually make things easier for me: bumping Arcade Fire up the bill would mean I could see AF and UNKLE.

The only thing I'm a little concerned about is that this is just an excuse for something else. Dickhead RATM fans perhaps? And this perhaps as a stalling tactic while they try to talk her into finishing the tour? It's unlikely but I'm a little worried nonetheless.

I'm hoping she recovers from it in time for Melbourne - apart from RATM and AF and AF, she was my main drawcard for the festival...

...but I also agree that it would free up my schedule slightly...

well you know that if she cancels for us then it's just because it's Perth.

Just like Mars Volta cancelled on us last year after post-poning.

And hey I only spent the money for Arcade Fire and Augie March so I couldn't care less.

Confession: The only time I've been into the boiler room (or the hothouse) is for the Chemical Brothers. One time, for a single act, out of three trips to BDO.

I think it would be difficult to keep something like that secret. Just my opinion, though.

My money's on her being put off by the heckling RATM fans at the Gold Coast BDO. It's a strange festival to put her on. I mean, not the Big Day Out as such, but a BDO where Rage Against the Machine is headlining. And her being on stage RIGHT BEFORE them.

I'm a huge fan of RATM and when I saw them on Tuesday at the SEC there were a LOT of angry kids who probably weren't exactly "fans" - they seemed to just be there because it was cool and an excuse to get angry. Fuck, I heard someone refer to 'Vietnow' as 'Turn Off Your Radio'. And they also said they had it as their ring-tone.

So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Bjork was so put off by the Gold Coast she stayed to play her Sydney solo show, amidst true fans, and has now turned up her nose at the BDO. Knowing Bjork's nature, this seems plausible. I can't blame her.

It is disappointing though.

Will this push Arcade Firde up into the abuse from Rage fans and also make it alot harder to get into the D to see them? For Sydney dwellers I hope not and if it does I hope shes back in time to deal with angry Adelaide Rage fans. Cause it will probably cause a mush less enjoyable AF set as well as missing UNKLE completley.

Actually on a closer inspection just means AF will be right after UNKLE rather than right before. Still no hope of getting into the D for AF though if Bjork dosn't make it to Adelaide. I wouldn't mind catching her some of set too.

her reception wasn't even that bad!!!! lies, lies, lies.

bjork isn't ever going to appeal to the majority of an audience. it's not like the rage fans bottled her off the stage like whenever a black act plays leeds/reading. and it's not like bjork is silly enough to think that co headlining with rage is going to give her the same crowd as an opera house show. everyone was polite where I was standing as a (completely sober) long term fan of both bjork and rage.
