It never rains; it pours. Since bursting onto the scene with 2001 debut album B.R.M.C., Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have managed to go the bigger half of a decade without reaching our fair state.
And with their debut WA show (at Southbound on January 5) looming, the black-clad trio have gone one better and confirmed a headline gig at Metropolis Fremantle the following night.
Their impending tour, which also includes headline shows on the East Coast as well as appearances at the Falls Festivals, comes on the back of a year spent touring North America and Europe on the back of new album Baby 81.
After reworking the fuzz-rock sounds of The Jesus and Mary Chain on B.R.M.C. and 2003 follow-up Take Them On, On Your Own, the band ventured from the beaten track with album number three, Howl (2005). The album featured strong blues, roots and gospel influences and owed much of its sound to the late Johnny Cash. Baby 81 takes all the lessons learned on Howl and adds them to the reverb-soaked sound they made their own on their first two records.
The Metropolis gig goes on sale on November 23 through Sunset Events and BOCS, as well at 78’s, Mill’s and Beat.
