Make what you will of the woody surrounds of a small logging town called Weed, in Northern Californian, USA. Since January, Cog have been calling this place home. It’s a far cry from the white sandy beaches of Bondi, but the boys have gotten comfortable, put their heads down, and focused on the creation of their second studio odyssey, due out 2008. Sharing Space is the follow up to their hugely successful debut album, The New Normal (2005). The single ‘What If’, is their first offering.
Featuring the powdered vocals of front man Flynn Gower, held together by the rhythmic bass tones of Luke Gower and the trademark thump from drummer Lucius Borich, ‘What If’ is a more complex and more rounded sounding Cog. Lyrically political and thought provoking, their edge sharpens with age.
Joined once again by producer Silvia Massy Shivy ( System of a Down, Tool, Spiderbait ) and mixer Rich Veltrop in Radio Star Studios Weed, the record has surfaced, just in time for the band’s Aussie tour this week.
It’s been a long year for Cog fans, with the band limiting local shows to focus on the new album from their USA base. The drought will therefore be broken by a year of heavy local presence and a brand spanking new record. They will be joined by Brisbane’s alternative rockers, Dead Letter Circus.
