Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds torelease new album

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds announced this week that they will releasing their 14th studio album, DIG, LAZARUS, DIG!!! On the 3rd March 2008.

The album, which was recorded at the State of the Ark studios in England, was produced by Cave and The Bad Seeds along with Nick Launay who also worked on their last album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus.

Nick Cave was inducted into the ARIA Hall of fame last week, finally accepting the honour following six years of declining to be admitted. However, in true Cave style it was on his terms. After thanking members of The Bad Seeds and The Birthday Party in his speech he took it upon himself to induct his band mates in as well, proclaiming “I would like to, by the power vested in me, induct these people also into the Aria Hall of Fame”.

I read - in Time Off, I believe - that there could be a new Grinderman album coming as well. But iirc, no date was given.

Haven't Grinderman already disbanded in favour of keeping The Bad Seeds going?

Well, that's what I had heard. Then I saw this; I guess you southerners can't be bothered looking north very often:

"Grinderman are planning a new album, and there’s a Bad Seeds’ recording coming early in 2008. Cave and Ellis have also recorded the soundtrack to the new Andrew Dominik/Brad Pitt film The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. The pair recorded the bulk of the soundtrack in Brighton after viewing a minuscule clip taken from the film’s rushes."

It's frigging awesome -- go see it. I'm not a big movie person and, in fact, it's not really a film. It transcends the medium. It has the feel of a story read from a book -- you get little slices, chapters that bookend each other really well. I dunno, it just flowed beautifully. Cave has a cameo, too. He's no Slava Grigorian on the guitar, though. :)
