Mod superstars The Who will return to Australia early next year, according to vocalist Roger Daltrey.
The band has completed a year of touring Europe and North America on the back of Endless WIre, their first studio album since 1982’s It’s Hard and Daltrey told Reuters they planned to continue.
“We just finished 13 months of touring all over the States and Europe, and are probably due to go back to Japan and Australia next year,” he said.
Up until the band’s 2004 tour, The Who’s last time on Australian soil had been in 1968, when Prime Minister John Gorton told guitarist Pete Townshend to leave the country following an incident on an Ansett flight from Melbourne to Adelaide.
The current lineup for The Who features only Daltrey and Townshend from the original lineup, following the infamous death of drummer Keith Moon in 1978 and bassist John Entwhistle ’s 2002 passing. Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck collaborator Pino Palladino plays bass, Pete’s brother Simon Townshend plays guitar while Zak Starkey, son of Ringo and student of Moon (plus live drummer for Oasis and Johnny Marr) bangs the drums.
