There is no denying Chrissie Amphlett’s school uniform clad figure is one of the most iconic rock images from the 1980s. So it is with great pleasure that we announce the fullscale return of Amphlett to the rock arena – when the Divinyls tour this December.
Already headlining this year’s Homebake festivities, these rock legends will be wielding their magic for a new generation of punters. Amphlett was renowned for her brash on stage theatrics and overt sexuality and it will certainly be interesting to see the real deal in action; even though it’s some years since the group have put out a new album (apart from a Greatest Hits) or performed, Amphlett and the Divinyls remain a strong influence on today’s crop of young rock stars.
Spawned at a time when pub rock ruled the suburbs, Divinyls became one of the most successful pop rock acts of the 80s and early 90s.
Throughout many line-up changes (only Amphlett and guitarist Mark McEntee remained the same) the band penned some killler tracks including Science Fiction , Pleasure and Pain, Boys in Town and the oft mentioned I Touch Myself.
Whilst the band never split up, work slowed and each of the members went on to pursue solo careers. In 2006 the Divinyls were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Now for the first time in years the Divinyls will be hitting the road once more for an East Coast tour – best of all they’ve also got a new single in hand, Don’t Wanna Do This recorded in Las Vegas – the track delivers the classic Divinyls sound andi provides a taste of what’s to come on the new album – planned for a 2008 release.. In the meantime get your paws on some tix for the tour. Tix on sale October 30
