AIR (The Australian Independent Record Labels Association) announced today that alcohol brand Jagermeister have jumped on board as the sponsor for the Annual Australian Independent Music Awards, The AIR Awards.
To be held in Melbourne later this year, the AIR Awards are Australia’s only national awards designed to bring special attention to, and honour the outstanding achievements of 100% Australian independent artists – specifically focusing on those artists who are released through an Australian owned independent record label.
“The JAGERMEISTER AIR Awards reflect the richness and diversity of our thriving local music industry, and ensure that independent artists are honoured appropriately and in recognition of real outcomes achieved within the last year,’’ said AIR Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Watters.
Jagermeister are proud supporters of the local indie music scene previously operating indie music nights at popular Melbourne and Sydney venues with an aim to showcase new live rock acts.
Nominees for the AIR Awards are based on statistics collated by AIR each week via the “V AIR Independent Chart”, Australia’s only weekly chart dedicated to profiling top selling Australian independent artists. The chart profiles record sales by Australian independent artists and brings attention to some of the most interesting new music produced in Australia today.
The “V AIR Independent Chart” is compiled by AIR from sales rankings supplied by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) on a weekly basis. It differs from the ARIA chart because it focuses 100% on Australian artists represented by independent labels, giving important profile to our thriving local music industry.
The 2007 Awards will be held in Melbourne, with further details to be announced next week – stay tuned to FasterLouder for details.
