Something for Kate roll intotown
Mon 10th Sep, 2007 in Local News
Melbourne band Something for Kate return to WA this week on the back of The Murmur Years, their new greatest hits compilation.
The tour and LP release look back on the band’s five studio albums, spanning the 11 years since the band released debut album Elsewhere for 8 Minutes right up until last year’s Desert Lights. In that time they’ve received 11 ARIA Award nominations, two number one albums, and have won Triple J’s album of the year award.
And as if that wasn’t enough, they were hand-picked by David Bowie as supports for his 2004 Australian tour, while bassist Stephanie Ashworth was headhunted by Courtney love to join Hole after Melissa Auf Der Maur left the grunge icon’s band. Ashworth politely declined the offer.
Paul Dempsey (vocals, guitar), Clint Hyndman (drums) and Ashworth will be in town this weekend for two gigs; at the Rosemount on Saturday (September 15) and the Fly by Night in Fremantle on Sunday (September 16).
Along for the ride are fellow Melbournites Deloris, who return for the first time since their Ten Lives album tour in February. Ten Lives, their third album, was released late in 2006 and was named album of the week by RTR FM and Drum Media. Opening proceedings at the Rosemount gig is Abbe May and the Rockin’ Penumonia.
