The Smallgoods tour
Tue 28th Aug, 2007 in Local News
The Smallgoods are set to traipse along the East Coast this September peddling their latest wares – a spanking new CD entitled Down on the Farm.
They’ve packed their swags and billy cans and are set to travel through the very countryside that first inspired them to pick up instruments and put pen to paper for Down on the Farm, delivering songs brimming with tales of escaping the city life and epic dark ballads.
Joining the Smallgoods on their jaunt are some talented local acts including Sly Hats and Pikelet in Melbourne, Sui Zhen and the Maple Trail in Sydney and the J*ohn Steele Singers* and Laura K and the Aeroplanes up in Brisbane.
Recording for Down on the Farm began in 2005 with a recording grant from Arts Victoria. Over the best part of the next two-and-a-half years the Smallgoods, along with engineer Marcus Barczak, both endured and revelled in experiences thrown at them by the recording process: well-equipped city studios, low-fi country recordings, deafening crickets, loss of large portions of recordings through equipment malfunction, a vast array of instruments, overseas shows, and some good old-fashioned campfire sing-a-longs.
Down on the Farm is in stores now and the Smallgoods hit the road in September.
