Want a Boys Night Out?
Sun 26th Aug, 2007 in Local News
After spending the last year touring the US with some of the biggest bands in the world, Boys Night Out are set to bring their intense live show to Australia for the very first time this November as they do
the rounds in support of their brand self-titled new album.
Having built an intense following on the road with their high octane live shows Boys Night Out have shared stages with the likes of My Chemical Romance and Saves the Day and earned a stint on the renowned US Warped Tour. – œThe greatest live band from the “Great White North” also featured on the Nintendo Fusion Tour with Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack and Panic! at the Disco. The high profile shows helped the band establish a strong fanbase leading to string of sold out headline shows across their homeland.
Guitarist Jeff Davis states: “We are focused entirely on writing honest music that is straight from the heart. We just do what we do, no bullshit, and we make no apologies for it.”
Their uncompromising determination to create such personal and heartfelt music has put them in the company of Ferret Record label-mates Job For A Cowboy, Darkest Hour, Every Time I Die and Shadows Fall.
With their third full-length album, Boys Night Out has made a bold, bare-knuckled declaration. The self-titled release shows the band have certainly hit their stride, throwing progressive guitar work into the mix with dark pop and heavy but loose rock n’ roll. Boys Night Out is a band that blended melody with abrasion long before the mainstream had even heard the term – œscreamo’. New songs like ‘Up with Me’, ‘The Push and Pull’ and ‘Swift and Unforgiving’ are the latest salvos in the band’s determined war on dishonesty.
Riff-tastic and near prog-like guitars crashing into rousing sing-a-longs, built around dark subject matter (this is the band responsible for 2005’s acclaimed concept album, Trainwreck), are all over the new album. With a foot planted firmly in the rule-breaking bile of punk rock and another foot standing on the melodic sensibility of the Foo Fighters or even Third Eye Blind, Boys Night Out’s music sounds so honest because they always set out to satisfy their own musical interests, first and foremost.
