Raw rock shots

From the love shown for the galleries on FasterLouder it’s clear everyone love a great rock photo – and now Melbourne has a fine art gallery devoted to the artists who get up close and personal in the shooters pit.

As The Raw Gallery owner Kirsty Umback explains, – œthere’s no Gallery in Melbourne exclusively working in this area, especially one aiming to work in conjunction with both local and internationally renowned rock photographers. With the city’s reputation as Australia’s cultural capital, I’m sure there’s great interest from the public in this type of high end art work.’

The range of musicians featured on the gallery’s wall is extensive with shots of The Rolling Stones, Queen, David Bowie, KISS. Nirvana, Thom Yorke, Eminem, Nick Cave, James Brown, the Sex Pistols, Bruce Springsteen and Rod Stewart on display.

There are also photos of The Smiths’ posing outside Manchester’s Salford Lads Club in 1985 and iconic images of Jeff Buckley, including the shot that became the cover of his famous Grace album.

The Raw Gallery’s intention is to also help promote local photographers and musicians. Currently the gallery has a small selection of local work, primarily by Serge Thomann and Kirsty herself, but new names will soon be added to the list.

All the prints are limited Edition, hand signed and numbered by the
photographer.
