The Spice Girls are back...Heading for Sydney in 2008...
Wed 4th Jul, 2007 in International News
Tired of tabloids, personal drama and fading pop cultural image, UK’s biggest girl band ever Spice Girls, will be touring again after a six year hiatus. “Yay!” for all the fans of the super popular group which managed to sell over 55 million records globally and their debut single Wannabe, went number 1 in 31 countries.
Also, EMI will be releasing a “long-awaited” Spice Girls’ greatest hits album in November 2007. Tony Wadsworth, chairman & CEO, EMI Music UK said, “The Spice Girls were a unique phenomenon and a great instance of UK pop music taking over the world. It’s great to have them back.” The 11 date tour will be arriving to Sydney in January 2008.
Does this mean that “proper pop” is back? The reunion will also accompany the release of an official TV documentary directed by Bob Smearton, who previously worked in Beatles Anthology and Who’s Next, about the “definitive story” of the Spice Girls.
A tour, a greatest hits CD and a documentary are on the way. So for whatever the reasons this group has decided to get back , they want to bring pop back in track. Was there ever a track?
One day after announcing the ticket ballot for their shows, The Spice Girls have had more than one million applications for ticket registrations from eager fans… now that’s girl power… Representatives for the band anticipate five million applications by Wednesday.
