New Beck album The Information has been declared ineligable for the British albums chart.

The album, which features a bonus DVD with video clips to all 16 songs on the album, was said to have an ‘unfair advantage’ over other releases according to the Official Chart Company. The Information also features special packaging which allows fans to design their own artwork with stickers provided inside.

A spokesperson for Interscope Records said they were well aware of the risk but decided to include the extras anyway.

“We knew before the album was released that the DVD and stickers would affect its chart eligibility,” they said. ”But they’re both such brilliant ideas that it was never a question of us doing anything different from what Beck had planned for the release of The Information.”

The Information is in stores now through Interscope, complete with bonus features.

i don't think beck will be too perturbed by this, and by all reports sounds like an awesome package. if anything, the media attention over it being ineligible to the charts will boost its popularity!

how is that an unfair advantage? all other bands could do it too, if they wanted, except that they (or at least their record companies) cannot be arsed, it would appear.
