The MTV awards for 2006 were held in New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Hosted by actor,
Jack Black, this year’s awards featured nominations for the likes of The Red Hot Chilli
Peppers, Madonna, Panic! At The Disco and Avenged Sevenfold.
Panic! at the Disco won video of the year for their song, ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’,
James Blunt recieved the award for best male video while Kelly Clarkson won
the female category. Best rock video went to the boys from AFI for ‘Miss Murder’ and
Avenged Sevenfold took out best new artist.
Despite being nominated in five categories, Madonna went home empty-handed.
Other surprise losers included The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Gnarls Barkley.
But what would the MTV awards be without some drama. As Panic! at the Disco walked to
the stage to collect their award for video of the year, a man jumped up on stage, grabbed a
microphone from one of the band members and said “MTV never gave me my own show.”
He tried to snatch the trophy from Jennifer Lopez, who was presenting the award,
before he was removed from the event by security.
