MTV VMA nominees announced

Despite the luke warm reception to their latest release, it seems the Red Hot Chili Peppers have come up trumps with seven nominations at this year’s MTV VMAs. The only act to rival the Chili Peppers in the award stakes is the bootylicious Shakira (who also had seven noms).

Shakira and the Peppers are both up for video of the year alongside Christina Aguilera (‘Ain’t No Other Man’), Madonna (‘Hung Up’) and Panic! At The Disco (‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’).

Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’ is also up for best female video, best dance video and best pop video – proving there is still some life left in the Material Girl. Christina Aguilera also earned additional nods for best pop video and best choreography.

This year’s nominees for best male video provided a real mixed bag, with Nick Lachey’s ‘What’s Left of Me’  butting up against James Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’, Kanye West’s ‘Gold Digger’, T.I.’s ‘What You Know’ and Busta Rhymes’ ‘Touch It’.

The first confirmed performers for this year’s ceremony include: Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Panic! At The Disco, the Killers, T.I. and Ludacris. the MTV VMAs will be held on August 31 at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
