Spoken-word scribe and hard rock screamer Henry Rollins has scored his own radio show on Los Angeles’ indie station 103.1FM - and is set to entertain US troops abroad. In his most recent newsletter, the singer and author revealed he’s recently been offered a chance to take over the airwaves:
I was asked by the good folks at 103.1 FM here in Los Angeles CA if I would like to host a couple of hours. I said I was interested but in order to do it, I would have to be able to bring my own music and talk about anything I wanted to. They told me that’s what they had in mind and so I said yes. This is the only station you can turn on and hear The Buzzcocks twice in an hour. This is my kind of station. Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols is one of the hosts. It’s pretty damn cool.
Barring being dropped from his two-hour slot, Rollins hopes that this will become a regular occurrence. And as for what listeners can expect?
I will be talking about current events, recounting stories, as I am wont to do, and playing some really great music from all genres. If you find yourself so inclined, you might want to tape some of this as I will be playing rare and alternative tracks, a lot of which have never been put onto CD until I transferred them myself.
The show begins on Monday, May 17th at 7pm, West Coast Standard Time. The station’s website offers a streaming link.
In other news, Rollins announced that he will be travelling to Iraq and Kuwait to entertain Allied forces still in the area – and undoubtedly to gather grist for his spoken word mill.
