Jeff Buckley Earns a Biopic
Fri 30th Jun, 2006 in International News
Jeff Buckley’s life story is set to become a film. The force behind the movie is writer/director Brian Jun, who is being assisted by Buckley’s mother Mary Guibert, who is also producing the biography
This will be the second attempt on a movie about the stars life, after Train Houston secured the rights to the biography by David Browne Dream Brother: The Lives & Music of Jeff & Tim Buckley.
The movie was discontinued as Mary Guibert controls the rights to Buckley’s songs, and wished to start a career of sorts in the movie world
“The time was right to have a project where integrity could be built into the script and that we could wrangle it so that it didn’t get co-opted or changed in getting to the screen.” Guibert said after films such as Walk the Line and Ray had been huge successes while retaining the integrity of the main man.
It is not yet known who will play Jeff Buckley in the film, but it has been reported that the film will deal with the relationship between Jeff and Tim Buckley, even though they had only met twice during Tim’s life.
It also deals with the downsides of gaining a large amount of fame in a short period of time, while injecting the music of both Tim and Jeff on the soundtrack.
No release date is known at this time, but the project is certain to go ahead.
