Beck fans will be interested to hear that his new album, produced by longtime collaborator Nigel Godrich (of Radiohead fame) will have a hip hop feel.
Gone are the introspective ways of previous collaborations, Sea Change and Mutations, to be replaced by what Beck refers to as a series of “hip hop” tracks.
Speaking to MTV, Beck revealed that the change in direction was inspired by Godrich. “Before we started, Nigel said he wanted to do a hip-hop record. And in a way it is, and in a way it isn’t. It has hip-hop songs, and my previous work with him was Mutations and Sea Change, these sort of introspective records, and so this new one is sort of bringing those two worlds together.”
The album will feature tracks such as ‘1000 BPM’ and ‘Nausea’ is scheduled for release in September.
Beck is also expected to release a 10 year anniversary reissue of 1996’s Odelay, which will feature rarities and remixes by Aphex Twin and Dust Brothers.
