Franz Ferdinand Turn Down£30 million!

If you’ve been wondering as to the Scottish outfit’s desire to become sell-outs over recent years, then here’s something to put an end to your doubts. Franz Ferdinand, have just turned down an offer to take part in a £30 million advertising campaign in the US, to retain credibility with fans.

Following the recent Absolut adverts, starring Lenny Kravitz and Jack White’s Coca Cola campaign, it’s been revealed that the band were asked to add their powers to market an unnamed brand for a whopping 30 million.

Although the deal would have kicked up the sales of the band’s latest album You Could Have It So Much Better, Alex Kapranos told Scottish tabloids that the group have no regrets. “They wanted to do this huge thing that was going to have $50m spent on it. It would have meant we sold four times as many copies of the album, just from the extra exposure it would have got. But the advert meant we had to completely surrender all of our identity and integrity to this product that was being advertised.”

Although he wouldn’t reveal the product in question, he did cancel out Coca Cola: “It wasn’t Coca-Cola or anything like that. It was just a thing that needed some music associated with it. We just had to say no because of the gut reaction. It wasn’t because we didn’t want to sell more records. It was just because it didn’t feel right.”

Well it’s good to see that there are still a few pure souls left in the business of rock and roll.

I've met the band twice and they always seemed really lovely, down to earth guys. It's nice to know it wasn't all an act!
