Kat Bjelland, ex-Babes In Toyland lead, joined forces with Brits Andrew Parker, Darren Donovan and Vanessa White in 2002 to form Katastrophy Wife. Now based in the UK these influential rockers have announced 24th May as the release date of the new album appropriately titled ‘All Kneel’, the follow up to 2002’s critically acclaimed ‘Amusia’, which scored the band a slot on the Reading Festival line-up in the same year. This year Katastrophy Wife are back on the festival circuit playing Glastonbury.
The first single from the album ‘Blue Violet’ is typical Bjelland style, punchy rock topped with a powerful singing style and her trademark scream. The album also contains a touching tribute ‘Layne To Rest’ to Kat’s friend Layne Staley, the late Alice In Chains frontman.
Kat is renowned for her ‘kinderwhore’ style, and old band Babes In Toyland are considered icons of the 90’s riot grrl era, achieving 1 million sales between 1990 and 1995 with the release of four albums. Previous to that Kat was in shortlived band Sugar Babylon with Courtney Love and Jennifer Finch, who moved onto form Hole and L7 respectively.
