Lostprophets "in a state ofshock" after singer's arrest

Welsh act Lostprophets have pulled their website down as details about the criminal charges against lead singer Ian Watkins emerge. The band’s website currently hosts a message from Watkins’ bandmates expressing their shock and thanking their fans for their support.

Watkins has been charged with possessing, making and distributing indecent images of children and with possession of “extreme” animal pornography. The Welsh rock star is also alleged to have conspired with a woman to rape a one-year-old girl. He and two women, who can not be named for legal reasons, will appear in Cardiff Crown Court to face the charges on December 31. Watkins’ barrister has indicated that he will deny the charges.

Lostprophets toured Australia earlier this year on the Soundwave festival tour, playing sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne with Kids in Glass Houses and VersaEmerge. Soundvave promoter AJ Maddah has expressed his shock over the charges tweeting that Watkins “seemed like such a sweet guy” and that while the alleged crimes are “pretty disturbing if true” he’ll reserve his judgement until more details come to light.

I dont even know the band but that's pretty horrendous news. It's a shame we have to hear about it just because he's linked to the music industry.

The charge is "conspiring to rape a girl under 13". That child under the age of 13 is one year old.

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has issued a statement denying allegations made against him as his child sex case was adjourned.

The statement, issued on behalf of Ian Watkins by his solicitor Sarah Williams-Martin of Watkins & Gunn Solicitors reads: "Mr Watkins furiously denies all of the charges and allegations made. He intends to fight to the bitter end to clear his name. He wishes to thank the fans, family and friends for the constant love and support they have given and continue to give throughout this testing time."

Watkins, who appeared in Cardiff Crown Court today (March 11) via video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend, will appear in court again in May, the BBC reports. He has been remanded in custody since December and is accused of several child sexual offence charges, including conspiracy to rape a baby and four offences relating to possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

A 24-year-old woman has been charged with the same offences as Watkins. A 20-year-old woman is charged with five of the same offences but not conspiracy to rape. The alleged offences date from May to December 2012. The case has now been adjourned until the week commencing May 20. No pleas were entered.
