Jack White visits Portlandiafor Christmas
Tue 18th Dec, 2012 in International News
Jack White, the owner of Nashville’s famed Third Man studios, has made a cameo in cult TV series Portlandia, appearing in a scene that mocks obsessive studio recording techniques.
In the show’s Christmas special, “Winter in Portlandia”, star and writer Fred Armisen plays a moustachioed producer who obsessively collects vintage recording equipment. He’s waiting for the day when a great artist will arrive to actually use it. Enter Jack White, who appears surrounded in an angelic fog to grant Armisen his Christmas wish.
White joins Portlandia star Carrie Brownstein’s former Sleater-Kinney bandmate Corin Tucker, Colin Meloy and Jenny Conlee of The Decemberists, James Mercer of The Shins, Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, St Vincent (aka Annie Clarke), Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold and Joanna Newsom on the long list of the show’s musical cameos. Portlandia’s third season is set to begin in January, and will feature guest stars including Roseanne Barr, Bill Hader, Rose Byrne, Patton Oswalt, Juliette Lewis, Matt Lucas, Martina Navratilova, and Dinosaur Jr’s J Mascis.
This isn’t White’s first foray into acting, however. He played an unhinged Elvis in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story at the personal request of John C Reilly, who recently spoke to FL about White’s abilities as an actor. After talking about the experience of recording at Third Man and listening to Insane Clown Posse in White’s car, Reilly explained that the former White Stripes frontman has a natural ability for acting. “He’s very funny,” Reilly said. “But he’s got a pretty sweet day job so I don’t know. If he does decide to get more into the acting game I’m sure it’ll be as great as everything else he does.”
