'Tommy' director Ken Russelldead, aged 85

Controversial film director and genuine madman Ken Russell has died in his sleep, aged 85.
Among his many achievements Russell is known for directing the film version of The Who’s rock opera Tommy, which features a star-studded cast including Roger Daltrey, Oliver Reed, Elton John, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and Jack Nicholson.
Russell also worked with Daltrey on Lisztomania a biopic about the composer Franz Liszt featuring Ringo Starr as the Pope and a series of other classical music biopics including The Music Lovers (Tchaikovsky) and Mahler.
