Gorillaz: “The End isNigh!”

Gorillaz bassist and self-proclaimed leader of the band Murdoc has hinted that “The End is Nigh” for the animated band.

In a series of tweets he wrote that “Something special has just floated up on my island. A small toy trumpet to herald a big announcement… It’s true! All of history has been leading up to this one magnificent, seismic point. From the Big Bang onwards…And now it’s here! Gorillaz are TEN. Ten years old, eh? T.E.N. What’s that stand for? The End is Nigh…!”

The recent announcement of the first gig since 2008 for one of Damon Albarn’s other projects The Good, The Bad and The Queen has also raised speculation that the Gorillaz could be coming to an end.

However Albarn is well known for juggling several projects at once and in August Erykah Badu revealed that she has been working on new music with Gorillaz and Flying Lotus.

While a tweet from a fictional band member doesn’t officially confirm the end of the band, it is more credible than the ‘split’ reported by British tabloid paper The People earlier this year that quoted an unnamed ‘insider’ who clamined that Gorillaz has split after a “massive argument” between Damon Albarn and his Gorillaz collaborator, Jamie Hewlett.

Then again, it could all just be publicity for their decade spanning ‘best of’ The Singles Collection, which will be released in late November.
