The Black Keys: "BlakRoc 2 isnot coming out soon"
Tue 27th Sep, 2011 in International News
A few weeks back, a trailer for BlakRoc 2, a sequel to The Black Key’s BlakRoc album, appeared on line touting collaborations between the blues rock duo and rappers including Talib Kweli, Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, The Cool Kids, Jay Electronica, U-God, Jim Jones, OC and Sean Price.
The video was posted on the YouTube channel of Blackroc producer Damon Dash’s DD172 media collective, however a new interview with Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney for Atlanta radio station 92.9 Dave FM reveals that the record doesn’t actually exist.
When asked about the album Carney sighs and explains that “ Blakroc 2 is not coming out soon, although somehow a trailer that was made two years ago without our permission and then recirculated again without our permission.”
“We have stuff recorded for it — about eight songs that I guess are done — but those were all recorded two years ago. So there are no plans for Blakroc 2 to be released as an album… People should just be excited about the new Black Keys album because it actually exists.”
So it looks like we’ll have to wait for a leak or the inevitable anniversary reissue of the album with a bonus disc to hear the eight extra BlakRoc tracks.
