AFI split is a hoax
Fri 9th Sep, 2011 in International News
AFI have been forced to deny break up rumours after someone hacked in to frontman Davey Havok’s account on the band’s official forum and posted a message announcing that “This is the end. Sorry, but AFI is done. After more than 15 years of being together, we as a band have decided to disband AFI.”
The message also claimed that “There will be no more AFI albums or shows. We have matured and have other things in life that we would like to attend to. Please forgive us for the random statement but it was something we were thinking of for a while.”
The band’s management has since released a statement to declare “That’s not dave. The band haven’t broken up. Someone is just screwing around. The hoax was convincing because the post was authored by Davey’s official Despair Faction account. It appears now that the account was hacked. Popular music news sites Alternative Press, NME, and Rock Sound all reported the news as fact, but they have since changed their articles to reflect that it was a hoax.”
Drummer and backup vocalist Adam Carson claims on Twitter that the band “would have totally written a better press release…” if they were really splitting.
