SWRev cancellation a joke, toSammy Hagar

Sammy Hagar doesn’t care that the Soundwave Revolution was cancelled, in fact he thinks it’s hilarious.

The Chickenfoot vocalist and occasional alien abductee revealed to Billboard that he and fellow ex-Van Halen member Mike Anthony “had the biggest laugh when [Van Halen] canceled Australia… Anthony was like, ‘I thought you told me they had canceled a couple months ago,’ and I was, ‘No, no, I told you they announced it.’ ‘Oh, they announced it,’ and we just cracked up. They kill me.”

Hagar also says that he’s “so disappointed in [Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen] I’m not even angry. I’m just disappointed. I really don’t like them anymore, and I can’t tell you how sad it is to me that what we had as creative guys, and as a friendship, how it just went away.”

I'd say A.J was trying on pants that were way to big for him and things began to distintegrate when he wasn't getting the ticket sales he was expecting.

Good to know that Hagar is still pissed at Eddie because the majority of us Van Halen fans are still pissed at him also, for allowing Hagar to join VH.

I don't think Van Halen "officially" cancelled, though the rumour mill certainly suggests they did.

in that case, isn't all the AJ hate a little rough? the two big headliners for your festival cancel, canning the whole thing rather than doing a half arsed job is fair enough in my books.

He has a track record of fuck ups that is as long as his line of excuses. Having spoken to a few people that have dealt with him, he needs to be schooled.

I think the whole thing went down teh tubes due to lack of ticket sales.....sometimes things just don't work out....pffft!

“The festival as we know it has been cancelled, the situation is we were scheduling to make a second announcement on the 1st August, that had our festival co-headliner on that announcement and their circumstances changed at the last minute and they had to pull out and unfortunately we don’t have enough time to replace them and we didn’t really want to go ahead with an incomplete line-up."

So yeah he did come out and say that, or were you referring to the inclusion of letting us all know VH cancelled as well?


I've never really considered going to a soundwave but Van Halen had me 50% sold and I was just waiting for the second announcement to sway me. I would imagine many others were in a similar boat so I can't imagine ticket sales would have been the main contributor pre-second announcement.

I'm pretty sure Napoleon was talking about AJ's lack on mentioning that VH cancelled.

My guess would be that ticket sales were slower than expected and AJ baulked at paying a deposit to VH or tried to renegotiate and VH told him to fuck off.

see if AJ were to have said that he lost the two main headliners then i can totally understand, but for a twitter whore like himself it is definitely odd that he hasn't tried to quell the hate with a genuine excuse.


i don't give a fuck though, as long as he now focuses on harvest i'm happy. i'm really hoping for a true soundwave style monster announcement

There’s an article here that leans towards Van Halen pulled out


Triple M Hot Breakfast has announced that VAN HALEN pulled out of the Soundwave Revolution festival which resulted in the whole festival being canned as we know it.

They also report that the other band due to sign on as part of the second announcement - which didn't actually get announced - was AEROSMITH. Allegedly, AEROSMITH was due to sign the paperwork but they didn't .

Triple M Hot Breakfast goes on to report that poor ticket sales also resulted in the cancellation of the event. Apparently, there are no plans for VAN HALEN to tour Australia anytime soon.

A tweet from AJ Maddah last night confirms this information.

Neither the VAN HALEN website or their Facebook page report any cancellation, with the last post on their Facebook on 7 July stating that they were looking forward to seeing everyone at their only Australian shows this year.

Overnight, AJ Maddah replied to several other tweets in relation to the revised festival saying that they are keeping all the same dates or very close to it in all 5 cities which squashes the fears people had yesterday that Perth and Adelaide would miss out.

Fred Durst from LIMP BIZKIT also weighed into the debate as to why Soundwave Revolution was cancelled and attempted to silence the haters who thought LIMP BIZKIT was the band that caused the entire festival to fold. "Hello my Australian people! Little FYI for you - we were never on the bill to play any festival down under. So looks like VH cancels and we get thrown in the mix, classic. All I can say is that we are very excited to rock OZ as soon as possible. I'll drink to that!"
