New Deftones sideproject -†††

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno revealed back in March that he was working on an album of “minimal and soothing” music with a new side-project with Scott Chuck and Far guitarist Shaun Lopez. That collaboration has now been christened with the un-Googleable name ††† (Crosses) and you can download the band’s debut EP † for the price of an email address.

The EP’s tracklist features more than it’s fair share of †’s and has raised the ire of the a another group bearing the similarly ridiculous name †‡†. The the Pitchfork spin off site Altered Zones reports that “Witch house band †‡† (aka Ritualz) is “SO FUCKING PISSED RIGHT NOW” [and] says Chino is totally “stealing my shit”.

†‡† continued their rant on Twitter announcing that the “only thing i can think of right now is that if you have a blog post about that fat fuck stealing my shit to let people know please… woke up to attacks by deftones fans. basically they’re mad because i came up with the crosses first and they hate everything not deftones?”

Moreno has said that he doesn’t have any plans to play live with the band and that he’s “just writing these little pieces of music, whether it starts with piano or some down tempo beats. It’s really minimal and soothing and it’s sort of like the stuff I like listening to when I’m not screaming my head off.”
