Damon Albarn’s ambitious newalbum

Damon Albarn doesn’t make simple albums. He makes record that feature Syrian orchestras, brass ensembles and a guest list including Lou Reed, Snoop Dogg and Little Dragon. Or he makes operas based on Chinese epics. Or he heads to Mali to record with local musicians including Toumani Diabaté. Or he forms a supergroup with an Afrobeat legend and members of The Clash, The Verve. Or… you get the point.
Anyway, now he’s currently in the Democratic Republic of Congo trying to record a record in just seven days to raise money for Oxfam charity work in the war ravaged country.
The Gorillaz and Blur frontman has assembled a crack team of musicians – including Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Dan The Automator, Jneiro Jarel, Richard Russell, Actress, Marc Antoine, Jo Gunton, Rodaidh McDonald and Kwes – for the ambitious new project.
There’s no release date for the record yet, but you can follow their progress on the DRC Music blog, which is currently filled with pictures of strange homemade instruments.
