'Nevermind' tribute album

Midnight Juggernauts, The Vaselines, Amanda Palmer and Surfer Blood are just some of the names behind the slyly named Newermind, a track-by-track cover album of Nirvana’s much-loved Nevermind.

Curated by SPIN Magazine to celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary, the tribute will be released in addition to a deluxe format reissue of the original Nevermind and will be available as a free download tomorrow.

It’s not the first time SPIN have commissioned a covers album either; they did it with Prince’s Purple Rain too. What’ll get the complete covers treatment next?

Covering Nirvana should be illegal.

I don't even mean in the "Holier than thou fanboi" sense either. Their music was sloppy and aggressive. I can understand musicians taking a lot from (and thus) wanting to highlight Kurt's lyrics. But seriously.

+1000 - motherfuckers need to come to Australia, even if Stefan and me are the only people at the gigs.

In terms of the overall album, I'll reserve judgement til I hear it. I didn't think the Stereogum Presents... covers album of REM's Automatic For The People was going to be any good, but it was a cracker.

I hope The Brotherhood do a 200bpm version of Something in the Way cos if its like the other tribute albums I've heard they'll mostly be slowed down, over-emotive, synth or acoustic rock mush.

There is another Nevermind tribute too be released with surprisingly worst choices than Surfer Blood and Midnight Juggernauts.
