The White Strpies officialy split earlier this year, now comes the news that fellow Detroit garage rockers The Von Bondies are are “done”.
The band’s leader, and one time Jack White punching bag, Jason Stollsteimer has told Spinner that “The Von Bondies are done… The Von Bondies was never a band, it was a solo project dressed up as a band… I did it for ten years and it was amazing and lots of fun, but [I have] no intentions of doing it right now.”
Drawing on what Spinner calls “a 1950s-oriented vocal sound laid overtop modern instrumentation” Stollsteimer has turned his attention to leading a new project * Hounds Below*.” According to Stollsteimer the new group doesn’t “sound anything like the Von Bondies—at all… I’m trying to make it sound like if kids today stopped using Auto-Tune and learned how to sing”. It’s also another “solo project dressed up as a band” – as Stollsteimer explains: “This is not a democracy, this is definitely a dictatorship; I want to be Elvis Costello, I want to be Roy Orbison.”
The Von Bondies released three albums: the 2001 debut Lack of Communication produced by Jack White, the 2004 breakthrough Pawn Shoppe Heart which featured the single C’mon C’mon and 2009’s Love, Hate and Then There’s You.
