Coming as no great shock Arcade Fire have won the $30,000 prize. They are the sixth act to win the prize following Karkwa, Fucked Up, Caribou, Patrick Watson and Final Fantasy
Arcade Fire have swept through multiple awards and categories at the Grammys, the Brits, the Junos and the NME Awards arleady this year and now they’re closing in on another award with a place on the 2011 Polaris Music Prize’s long list.
The Awards are Canada’s equivalent to the Australian Music Prize and the UK’s Mercury Prize.
Forty albums have been named on the Polaris list, touching the surface of Canada’s best new music including Neil Young, Destroyer, Stars, Austra, The Weeknd, Black Mountain and The Dears.
