Gossip Girl star cast as leadin the Jeff Buckley biopic

The Jeff Buckley biopic seems at times to be as mythical as the Kurt Cobain movie that regularly appears in the rumour files of movie blogs, but HollywoodLife is now reporting that the film producers have finally cast their leading man.

An unnamed source quoted by the tabloid claims that Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley has beaten sullen vampire Robert Pattinson and modern day renaissance man James Franco for the lead role in the Buckley biopic.

“Robert Pattinson is devastated,” the anonymous tattle-tale explains, “he’s lost out on the one role he really wanted. It was down to Rob, James Franco and Penn for the part, and Rob was really pushing himself to get it. Rob hasn’t heard ‘no’ a lot lately, so he’s really bummed. He was passionate about this project… Penn is thrilled to get this role and thinks it’s the film of a lifetime. He’s been trying to push out of the Gossip Girl image and knows this film will be the perfect opportunity to do so.”
