Metallica: the best band ofthe last 30 years

The 30th birthday issue of Kerrang! magazine has declared Metallica to be the best band of the last three decades, stomping home ahead of Green Day, Iron Maiden, Slipknot and My Chemical Romance for the honour.

Responding to the accolade, drummer Lars Ulrich gushed that “it gives me a very warm and fuzzy feeling that Kerrang! magazine have voted Metallica as the band that most changed their lives. I remember the first issue of the magazine in 1981. I had made a pilgrimage to England because I was obsessed with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. I travelled all over the country and that first issue accompanied me everywhere.”

Likely top ten contenders that missed out on the cut include Queens Of The Stone Age, Nirvana, Guns and Roses, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins and Van Halen.

Kerrang!’s top ten bands of the last 30 years:

6. Linkin Park
7. Bullet For My Valentine
8. Blink 182

BFMV being number 7 should give MAB something to bitch about for another day.

The article left out the word metal in the title... but then I guess other bands don't exist for Kerrang! readers?
Anyway for this genre of music they are wrong anyway, Mastadon should be at No.1!

Not suprised with the omission of "grunge bands" as it is a metal magazine as previously stated. Same goes for Van Halen as it is a UK mag. I have mentioned before I think their popularity was mainly in the USA aside from a few singles. I was suprised about Gunners though.

not aware of the background of the magazine it seems to be fairly metal orientated but no chili peppers and no nirvana seem like pretty big oversights also pearl jam and the pumpkins would have to be unlucky in my opinion
