Billie Joe Armstrong’s sonreleases punk album

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has a 16 year old son who is unsurprisingly a little punk rocker, but unlike dad little Joey Armstrong plays drums rather than writing rock operas and Broadway musicals.

With Billie Joe acting as producer, Joey and his band Emily’s Army – brothers Max (bass) and Cole Becker (vocals/guitar), and Travis Neumann (lead guitar) – recorded their debut LP, Don’t Be a Dick, in just four days. “The record has a lot of youthful punk rock attitude,” says Billie Joe, “They’re raw. It’s well played, has great hooks and is catchy as hell.”

Overnight the band loaded four preview songs from the record to Soundcloud – Broadcast This, Asslete, Statutory Brain Rape and Loch Lomond. Take a listen.

Oh, and that’s Joey second from left in the band photo.

it really, really would be nice to see an article on emily's army that wasn't all about billie's involvement. they're not 'billie joe from green day's son's band', they're emily's army, who happen to have joey as their drummer.
and before people start saying 'they wouldn't be known without billie', uh yes, they would. maybe not making news in australia, but they haven't just exploited their situation. they've worked up quite the following in the east bay punk scene, because they're really, really amazing live - i've seen them myself, and their energy, enthusiasm and commitment to their songs was just awesome. add to that that they've been playing for a few years now, so it's not like they haven't put in the hours before making a record.

Is it East Bay as in Oakland?

Yes, but I am pretty sure San Fran has three bays. South Bay which is San Fran downtown area, East Bay is Oakland, and North Bay is Sausalito.

@morningafterboy - disagree all you like, but please don't insult my intelligence. thanks.

@braveheart81 - yes, east bay as in oakland/berkeley and the famous 924 gilman street.

and all i was trying to say is it would have been nice to give the band a little bit of credit - they've played together for a few years now, gotten good live and toured around the greater bay area. yes, they're in a fortunate position, but they didn't have everything handed to them on a silver platter. i'm not trying to start a pointless internet argument here, i just wanna see a bit of credit where credit's due.

Hey aska, I get the point - but "Bay Area punk band releases album" isn't exactly newsworthy, while Green Day fans in Australia are probably interested to hear Billie Joe's son.

When Liam Finn started out he was always "Neil Finn's son", Dan Kelly was "Paul Kelly's nephew", Norah Jones was "Ravi Shankar's daughter" and so on.

Anyway - from your avatar it's fairly clear that you discovered them through the Green Day connection...
