Cibo Matto return

Following a reunion gig in New York in March experimental Japanese pop duo Cibo Matto – Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda- have now announced a North American tour and plans to record a new album.

The group split back in 2001, with Honda explaining that “Cibo Matto broke up, because it was time. We felt the need to move to the next step. It was a healthy decision, though it was sad at the same time. Things just need to grow out of things sometimes.”

Honda has released three solo albums since the split Memories Are My Only Witness, Eucademix and last year’s Heart Chamber Phantoms, while Miho Hatori released an album in 2005 and provided the ‘Noodle’ vocals on the first Gorillaz album.

The new record will be first Cibo Matto album since 1999’s Stereo Type A, which featured Sean Lennon as a member of the group. The band’s first album was 1996’s Viva! La Woman, which was released on the Bestie Boys’ Grand Royal label.
