Rage Against The Machine: "notwriting songs"

In June last year Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha told the world that a new album is “a genuine possibility”, but sadly it’s not coming anytime soon.

Guitarist Tom Morello, who has just released a new solo EP Union Town, told The Pulse of Radio that “Right now there are no [plans to record]... You know, the band is not writing songs, the band is not in the studio.”

He claims that the band members “get along famously” and “intend to do more Rage Against The Machine stuff in the future” but says that “there’s nothing else on the schedule” beyond their solitary live show for the year at the L.A. Rising concert with Muse and Rise Against on in July.

The band’s last album of original material The Battle of Los Angeles was released way back in 1999.

i think a new album is overdue for them, you can't just keep flogging 3 albums and pretend to still be relavent, instead he's wasting all his creative juices on One Day As A Lion

well i'm not a dictionary but in a rock band context to me it means to not rely only on nostalgia or "old favorites" to continue to exist but to keep producing new material, however often or rarely that may be

They've been flogging to same set list since 2000 so I wouldn't want to see them live until they have a new album, but I doubt the new album will live up to the energy they had back then.

They are honestly a band that I think needs to stay in the past. I loved getting the chance to see them but now I'm not fussed.

i largely agree although i don't like to prejudge an experienced band's potential to create good new music, if they ARE gunna keep touring then for me they need new material not just new fans of the old material like they seem to be going for

i'd like to hear new RATM music just like i'd like to hear new music from Soundgarden and Kyuss, fuck this "oh but i wouldn't want them to tarnish their legacy" stuff cos if they're still playing live, they should still be capable of writing music that is relevant to their lives and feelings of NOW, not just tapping into the sentiment of 10-20 years ago

Fuck that "tarnishing the legacy" rubbish. If the new music isn't good, don't listen to it, and it's just like it was never there. Noone will remembers the bad albums over the good anyway. Bring on new Rage!
