Revolver Golden Gods awards

The third annual Revolver Golden Gods awards – America’s only hard-rock and heavy-metal awards – have been presented, with Avenged Sevenfold taking home four trophies including album of the year.

Mike Portnoy, who played with Avenged Sevenfold as a temporary replacement for the late Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, also taking home the prize best drummer, while the top honours of the night went to Alice Cooper who was crowned Golden God and Motley Crue who were presented with the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other winners on the night included Big Day Out headliners Rammstein, Soundwave 2011 visitors Murderdolls and The Black Veil Brides who will play in Australia in September as part of Soundwave Revolution.

Avenged Sevenfold also headlined the evenings show following live performances from the original lineup of Alice Cooper – in their first L.A. appearance in 40 years – Duff McKagan’s Loaded, Volbeat, award host Chris Jericho’s band Fozzy, Devildriver performing a tribute to Black Flag, and Soundwave 2011 visitors Asking Alexandria playing with special guest Sebastian Bach.
