Update:
Bon Iver has released Calgary, the first single from the upcoming album.
Bon Iver front man Justin Vernon has announced that the details of his band’s new album including the artwork, title, tracklist and the all important release date.
Each of the ten songs on the self titled album, set for release on the 17th of June, is named after or represents a place, with a track inspired by Perth given the honour of opening the album. As FL reported last month Vernon says that the song was inspired by a “rejuvenating experience” he had on tour in Australia. The magazine says that the track features “a marching drum beat, a children’s choir and wailing guitars” and “sounds a lot like birth”.
According to the band’s label the album “expands the group’s sonic palette beyond the rustic acoustics of the debut into a lush landscape of silky electric guitars, beautifully intricate keys and subtle horn and string sections while keeping the ghost choirs and densely layered vocals intact that Bon Iver has become so known for”.
Vernon has also posted a brief snippet of the album in a video to tease fans who can’t wait until June to hear the record.
